I was asked to create a quilt for a special family in my community. It was such an honor to be a part of this creative process. This family has suffered great tragedy. Their young son was diagnosed with terminal cancer when he was just in preschool. He touched the heart of our community and to this day, his light and laughter still shines in my heart.
Now almost four years after his passing, this family is about to welcome another son into their life.
In deciding what colors and shapes to make this quilt, a friend and I brainstormed together for this project. I tried a new paper piecing technique and ordered TRIANGLES ON A ROLL and the coordinating template. I LOVED these tools! It made cutting and piecing the fabric a breeze!
Look at how easy it is to sew the pieces together!
This color palate is soft enough for a new baby, but will also be able to grow with him.
The first two rows joined.
My favorite fabric!
This was one of the quickest quilts that I have put together! The foundation paper piecing technique was awesome! Here's the quilt about to basted.
I finished the quilt on a rainy day.
It was with great joy I finished this quilt for this family. I felt the big brother's spirit shining down while I worked on the quilt for his little brother. I am so grateful to have been a small part of this new chapter for this family.
