I have been making a serious number of baby quilts this past month. Wow! Baby quilts are so much fun to make. They are smaller in size. The prints are so sweet and they can come together rather quickly. After the matching twin LIBERTY QUILTS - which was quite a project - it has been nice to work on smaller projects.
I bought the book - FOR KEEPS - BY, AMY GIBSON - and just fell in love with the SCENIC ROUTE quilt. I used two different collections of fabric for this quilt. I really like how they blended together. The first fabric collection was FLOWER SHOP - BY, ALEXIA ABEGG and the second collection was HEMMA - BY, LOTTA JANSDOTTER. I loved the simple prints and colors but also the modern look of the fabric. This was a fun project to work on!
I love how roads are sewn into the design. My hope is that this quilt will be soft and warm to cuddle with when the little boy is a baby and be a fun place to play with cars as he gets older.
The next baby quilt project was for my daughter's gymnastic coach. She is having a baby girl any second. Her first child is just about to become a big sister. I thought it would be fun to make coordinating quilts - one for each child. They both have the same quilt pattern, but with two different fabric prints. The first fabric was SUGAR PIE - BY, LELLA BOUTIQUE and the second was EARLY BIRD - BY, KATE SPAIN. I used charm packs, which really sped up the cutting process.
Here's the preliminary design.
My daughter and I decided to let the big sister decide which quilt she wanted. With the big transition in her home, we thought it would be nice for her to make the choice.
Here's the forth baby quilt that I finished last week. All of the details are in the THIS BLOG POST.
