Halloween is tomorrow and I have been sewing up a storm making pillows for a local shop and craft show. I am enjoying creating new pillows in different shapes and sizes. It's been fun playing with both Christmas fabric and Christmas colors. I have hand-drawn ideas and used the Electronic Quilt Program to make these. I am finding that sometimes the plan comes together perfectly - size, shape, design, vision - and other times it's a total bust. I have to go back to the drawing board, change-up the plan and run to the fabric store for more fabric as either did not measure properly, or not a all.
I started this pillow venture with my safe fabric and design. I used Kate Spain NORTH WOODS FABRIC with a random triangle pattern. Love it. Thinking about keeping it. But. Not a creative stretch.
Then, I tried a Christmas ornament pillow. This was challenging and fun. It took a few times to figure out how make it work. I used a circle cutter and interfacing and an embroidery stitch and a big bow! The fabric is called MERRY & BRIGHT from Hawthorne Threads.
I really liked how this pillow turned out, so I did it again with - my safe fabric - North Woods. This time I changed up the shape and number of ornaments. By the way, it was a bit tricky taking Christmas pictures in September. I tried to angle the camera to focus on the green background. A wider shot would definitely show flowers and trees covered in leaves.
This pillow I designed in the Electric Quilt program. I did not measure the background fabric prior to beginning the project and I ran out. I made an emergency trip to the fabric shop - aaannnnddd - ended up with more fabric than I planed on (or needed). This pillow was a blast to quilt! I did not really plan on how I wanted it to look. I just started sewing. It turned out pretty cool.
The skinny tree pillow above was once again made with North Woods fabric. I love that fabric. For the pillow below, I realized that I needed to try a new fabric approach. I recently bought the FRONT YARD fabric by Sarah Watts. Those garden gnomes are the cutest!! This pillow reminds me of preppy argyle socks I would wear in high school, or maybe like the ones I am wearing now...
This last pillow I once again ran out of fabric. I had to search high and low to find it online. It took soooooo long to get to my house. I literally finished this pillow yesterday. I am not sure if I am going to keep it or sell it. The pattern is called CHRISTMAS GNOME. It is a foundation paper pieced pattern. Super easy to make and just adorable!
Here are few pillows by the fireplace. I think I need a cup of hot chocolate.
